What better way to greet spring than with a fresh vegetable garden? A raised bed offers numerous benefits like improved soil quality and better drainage. Plus, it's easier on the back! So, let's dig in.
.Choose Your Spot - Select a spot that receives at least 6-8 hours of sunlight daily. Avoid low-lying areas where water tends to gather.
.Pick Your Materials - Wooden planks are a popular choice. Cedar or oak is ideal, as they are naturally rot-resistant. Ensure you have enough to build a bed at least 30cm high.
.Lay the Foundations - Prepare the ground by removing weeds and levelling the area. Lay down a layer of cardboard to discourage weeds, then assemble your wooden frame on top.
.Fill It In - Use a mix of compost, topsoil, and well-rotted manure. Fill your frame to about 5cm below the top edge.
.Plant Away - Choose your veggies according to the season and your taste. Popular spring choices include lettuce, radishes, and peas.
